Ethanol Production from Corn, Potato Peel Waste and its Process Development
نویسندگان
چکیده
Corn is one of the richest sources for the production of ethanol. This project was carried out to study the optimum conditions for the production of ethanol. The parameters like, pH, Substrate concentration and particle size were optimized using response surface method in the MINITAB 16 software. Both solid and submerged fermentation were studied. Submerged fermentation turned out to be favourable. Yeast fermentation was employed simultaneously with the saccharification process (SSF) for 72 hours. An attempt was made to produce ethanol from Potato peel waste, however it proved corn as an efficient substrate. There was a considerable yield of ethanol of 15.88g/l using pH 5.5, an intermediate particle size of 0.157mm and at a substrate concentration of 10% (W/V). A process development for the entire production was made involving the reactor design and the equipments to be used at an industrial scale.

Sub-critical water as a green solvent for production of valuable materials from agricultural waste biomass: A review of recent work
Agricultural waste biomass generated from agricultural production and food processing industry are abundant, such as durian peel, mango peel, corn straw, rice bran, corn shell, potato peel and many more. Due to low commercial value, these wastes are disposed in landfill, which if not managed properly may cause environmental problems. Currently, environmental laws and regulations pertaining to ...
متن کاملOptimisation of antioxidant extraction from Solanum tuberosum potato peel waste by surface response methodology.
This study reports the optimised conditions (temperature, ethanol concentration and processing-time) for antioxidant extraction from potato peel (Agria variety) waste. At short extraction times (34 min), optimal yields of phenolic (TP) and flavonoid (Fv) compounds were reached at 89.9°C and ethanol concentrations of 71.2% and 38.6%, respectively. The main phenolic compounds identified in the ex...
متن کاملNovel insight into the relationship between organic substrate composition and volatile fatty acids distribution in acidogenic co-fermentation
BACKGROUND Co-fermentation is an attractive technology for improving volatile fatty acids (VFAs) production by treatment of solid organic wastes. However, it remains unclear how the composition of different organic matters in solid waste influences the VFAs distribution, microbial community structure, and metabolic pathway during acidogenic co-fermentation. In this study, different organic wast...
متن کاملProduction of Invertase from Aspergillus Niger Using Fruit Peel Waste as a Substrate
Aim of present study was production, purification and characterization of invertase by Aspergillus niger (isolated from soil) using fruit peel waste as a substrate. Screening of various fungi grown on potato dextrose-agar (PDA) was done using liquid medium of 50% sucrose-Cazpek. After incubation at 28 ̊C for 10 days, the invertase activity was determined in the culture filtrate using Fehling’s s...
متن کاملPotato Granule Processing Line by-Products as Feedstock for Ethanol Production
Our research assessed fermentation characteristics of mashes prepared from oversized waste granules containing potato peel and potato dust formed during dried potato granule production. Due to the high water binding capacity of materials, applied fermentation was carried out at low gravities of 10 and 15% w/w of raw materials dry matter. Mashing of materials resulted in total soluble sugar (glu...
